Biocompatible Chromium Coating for Aluminum Medical Instruments

AL-COAT® is a precise, biocompatible, pure metallic chromium coating applied to Aluminum. The coating is completely inert, non-magnetic, USP Class VI, Tripartite/ISO and Anti-Microbial. The coating improves the physical appearance of medical instruments and, more importantly, provides functional enhancements to their performance.

Properties:

  • Arrests corrosion from sterilization and laser marking while maintaining new appearance
  • Increases wear resistance
  • Maintains cutting edges
  • Provides a hard, scratch resistant, nonstick, easy clean surface
  • Increases surface hardness
  • Eliminates galling, fretting, spalling
  • Arrests metallic debris and particulate matter
  • Provides smooth sliding surfaces
  • Reduces high intensity light reflection/refraction and glare
  • Provides long lasting, clean, pristine new appearance
  • Chemical resistant
  • Hydrophobic

Process
The AL-COAT® aluminum finish technology is a proprietary electrolytic plating, low-temperature (160° F) process that applies a precise pure metallic zerovalent chromium coating to the device without altering the integrity of the base material. Processed at a 30,000 sf facility in Providence Rhode Island in a clean latex free environment. AL-COAT® is a licensed product and process developed and managed by The Armoloy Corporation laboratories.

Appearance
The AL-COAT® coating is available in three finishes to suit your application: Non-Reflective, Platinum and Satin. See our finish comparisons here.

Adhesion
The AL-COAT® coating is bonded directly to the base material. This unique process enables the coating to adhere absolutely. The ALCOAT® coating will not chip, flake or peel. The Coating is highly ductile and will not separate from the base material even when twisted, flexed or impacted without intermediate layering.

Thickness
The deposit thickness of the AL-COAT® coating is engineered to meet the specific requirements of each customer. Normal deposit thickness ranges from 0.00004” to 0.001” per side (1,0- 25,0 microns). An AL-COAT® sales engineer will assist you in selecting the proper deposit thickness for your specific application.

Hardness
The AL-COAT® coating exhibits up to a unique 80Rc surface hardness providing a durable finish.

Sterilization

AL-COAT® coatings are compatible with the following sterilization procedures:

  • Steam Autoclave
  • STERIS SYSTEM 1
  • STERRAD Sterilization
  • Gamma X Ray
  • Bleach Exposure
  • Boiling
  • Detergent scrubbing
  • STERIS EtO

Biocompatible Chromium Coating for Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metal Surfaces

The ME-92® Coating offers the Industry’s Most Versatile Lineup of Biocompatible Chromium Coating Options for ferrous and non-ferrous metals in three finish options:

THREE FINISH OPTIONS:

  • ME-92 Satin
  • ME-92 Non Reflective
  • ME-92 Platinum

ME-92® SATIN

(shown on left applied to a base of stainless steel) Applied to tens of millions of devices, ME-92® Satin is our standard-bearer finish. As with all our finishes, it is bonded directly to the base material, is highly ductile and will not separate from the base material when twisted, flexed or impacted. Designed to enhance the overall performance of surgical devices; galling and fretting elimination, improved wear resistance, increased surface hardness, arrests corrosion from sterilization and laser marking, non-stick easy to clean surface, biocompatible and looks new after hundreds of uses. Unlike other coatings, removal and reapplication of our ME-92® Satin coating will not affect the base material or surface finish.

ME-92® NON REFLECTIVE

(shown on left applied to a base of stainless steel) Designed specifically for use in Laparoscopic and Endoscopic surgery procedures, ME-92® Non-Reflective coating reduces high-intensity light reflection and glare while providing the same reliable, biocompatible features of our full product line. Laser marking and repeated sterilization protocols will not degrade the color. Unlike other coatings, removal and reapplication of our ME-92® NR coating will not affect the base material or surface finish.

ME-92® PLATINUM

(shown on left applied to a base of stainless steel) A highly-polished surface deserves a high quality coating. From maintaining cutting edges on polished drills and reamers to sealing and protecting a polished instrument with a tough, durable finish our ME-92® Platinum finish takes polished stainless steel to the next level. Our Platinum finish provides a long-lasting, clean, new appearance for premier devices and instruments. Unlike other coatings, removal and reapplication of our ME-92® Platinum coating will not affect the base material or surface finish.
